Crazy Summer Colors!
I know its big and bright, but I did it by myself (with a few phone calls to Tiff, thanks T!) Just some bright colors to get everybody excited for summer.
March Madness "Boys only" Ski Trip
A annual tradition for the Lang family continued again this year, with a few minor changes. The usual tradition is drive up to Mammoth on Wednesday night stopping at 
In and Out Burger in Lancaster, followed by a nice rest at the Lang condo. The next morning is breakfast at the ski lodge, a lovely day of skiing, expensive pizza from Giovanni's, and a little b-ball on t.v.Friday is breakfast at The Stove, more skiing, and a lovely night of more b-ball. On the way home we must stop at Schat's Bakery to grab some goodies for grandpa.
Now the normal ski bunnies are Dean Brown, G-pa Lang, my dad, uncles, boy cousins, brothers, and a few male family friends. A few years ago I tricked them into letting me come. I have so far been the only girl allowed (go me!) This year was no different in that department. The things that did change were the location, food choices, etc. Instead of the amazing Mammoth Mountain we switched it to

I love skiing and spending time with the boys.Just in case you need to know a little bit more about me...

SPRING IS HERE!
I can't believe the sun is shining, it is warm outside, and I am feeling the sun on my face. Too bad one draw back of living in Utah is the ever changing weather. The rain/possible snow and freezing cold is coming back hopefully say a final goodbye. I wish it was last year and I was getting ready for my AMAZING adventure. oh well! Summer 2008 should bring me good things!
To many of you who may be wondering.... squiggly or straight (refer to earlier post if you are lost, don't feel bad it happens all the time with my random posts) Well because of a few different factors I made the decision to stay in Utah for the time being. I just didn't feel San Diego was right for me at this time. I had a second interview at the U last wednesday, and am now waiting. I love the waiting game......in all aspects of life! Haha yeah right!

I found bunny ears in my closet last night (I got them for a high school dance- Famous couples My date and I were the tortoise and the hare, I'm a genius when it comes to themed dances!) I decided to be a little festive while coloring my easter eggs this morning. I was wearing my U of U shirt (and my mom put the red dye in a Utah mug) so I HAD to make an egg to match the shirt, mug, and my pumpkin (refer to Halloween post with my cool U of U pumpkin) I completely understand I am a huge dork with my ears, but hey if I can't laugh at myself, at least all of you can laugh at me!
EASTER EGG HUNT
The winner for the kids hunt was Maggie and Mike won for the adult hunt. Justin had the most eggs, but Mike found the black egg. It is pretty funny to watch the adults run around like little kids trying to find the Lee's chocolate eggs. After the hunt Justin, Dave, Tiffany, and I were playing snake toss and Brooklyn was the anti-cheerleader, she would say things like "No points" "No point for David" etc. Classic Brooklyn lines for those of you who know her.

I'm sure you can think of many more... but since it is also St. Patrick's Day you should start off the week with a little dirt pudding from the castle in Ireland brought over by Harry O' Clancy...
(long story, St. Patty's Day is a BIG celebration in my house. Green pancakes, green orange juice, Irish stew, green breadsticks, dirt pudding, pot of gold from Harry, etc...)
Ingredients
- Put cookies into a zipper style bag and close tightly.
- Using a rolling pin, roll and crush the cookies until crumbly. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, pour the milk and chocolate instant pudding mix.
- Whisk well until all of the pudding mix is dissolved.
- Let stand 5 minutes.
- Add the Cool Whip and 1/2 of the crushed cookies.
- Stir until well blended.
- Place a large spoonful of crushed cookies into the bottoms of the plastic cups.
- Add the pudding mixture on top of that until the cups are 3/4 full.
- Add 1 large gummy worm so that it is half in the cup and 1/2 hanging out of the cup.
- Spoon in more crushed cookie around the worm to hold it in place.
- Serve chilled and ENJOY!
1 in 4....How Sad
CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- At least one in four teenage girls nationwide has a sexually transmitted disease, or more than 3 million teens, according to the first study of its kind in this age group.
A virus that causes cervical cancer is by far the most common sexually transmitted infection in teen girls aged 14 to 19, while the highest overall prevalence is among black girls -- nearly half the blacks studied had at least one STD. That rate compared with 20 percent among both whites and Mexican-American teens, the study from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found.
About half of the girls acknowledged having sex; among them, the rate was 40 percent. While some teens define sex as only intercourse, other types of intimate behavior including oral sex can spread some infections.
For many, the numbers most likely seem "overwhelming because you're talking about nearly half of the sexually experienced teens at any one time having evidence of an STD," said Dr. Margaret Blythe, an adolescent medicine specialist at Indiana University School of Medicine and head of the American Academy of Pediatrics' committee on adolescence.
But the study highlights what many doctors who treat teens see every day, Blythe said
Dr. John Douglas, director of the CDC's division of STD prevention, said the results are the first to examine the combined national prevalence of common sexually transmitted diseases among adolescent girls. He said the data, from 2003-04, probably reflect current rates of infection.
"High STD rates among young women, particularly African-American young women, are clear signs that we must continue developing ways to reach those most at risk," Douglas said.
The CDC's Dr. Kevin Fenton said given that STDs can cause infertility and cervical cancer in women, "screening, vaccination and other prevention strategies for sexually active women are among our highest public health priorities."
The study by CDC researcher Dr. Sara Forhan is an analysis of nationally representative data on 838 girls who participated in a 2003-04 government health survey. Teens were tested for four infections: human papillomavirus, or HPV, which can cause cervical cancer and affected 18 percent of girls studied; chlamydia, which affected 4 percent; trichomoniasis, 2.5 percent; and herpes simplex virus, 2 percent.
Blythe said the results are similar to previous studies examining rates of those diseases individually.
The results were prepared for release Tuesday at a CDC conference in Chicago on preventing sexually transmitted diseases.
HPV can cause genital warts but often has no symptoms. A vaccine targeting several HPV strains recently became available, but Douglas said it likely has not yet had much impact on HPV prevalence rates in teen girls.
Chlamydia and trichomoniasis can be treated with antibiotics. The CDC recommends annual chlamydia screening for all sexually active women under age 25. It also recommends the three-dose HPV vaccine for girls aged 11-12 years, and catch-up shots for females aged 13 to 26.
The WONDERFUL (insert sarcasm here) world I live in!
Well I don't like to do posts without pictures, so this is a picture I took on my lovely artwork in the shower (also known as my think tank, and my American Idol stage (minus the rude judges)) This was awhile ago when Emri was here, she left her toys in my shower so one day I decided to see why kids like to play with these things. Now I know, they are REALLY REALLY fun! (As you can see. I played with them until my mom cleaned them up one day, one sad sad day)
Any who, that has nothing to do with the planned post. As you might of read eariler, I decided to move to San Diego. I was scheduled to drive down on March 5th. Well since nothing in this job hunting process has EVER been easy... around 2:00pm on March 4th I got a call from the Pediatric Genetics Department at the University of Utah wanting to schedule an interview. I applied for a job back in January and just heard from them. The U of U job would be better for the future (PA school, I love babies (and want to work with them one day thanks to the C-section in Africa and Jessica's ultrsound, plus they are SO cute) not to mention my mom would love it if I stayed here, and so would my BF Brittany) But I don't have the job, just an interview. UGG! Life sucks, stress sucks, job hunting sucks, the list goes on and on at the moment.
Well if anybody has some advice.... I NEED IT. I'll let you know what the outcome is after the interview. I'll feel like an idiot if I made a big fuss about moving, and end up staying here, but what do you do if something better comes along? (At least I got released from my calling right?) Should I think of having fun or my future? hmmmm. I must now go to my think tank and ponder about life, jobs, why I call the shower my think tank, what song I'm going to sing while showering, and other random thought that run through my head.

After much though, list making, debating, sleepless nights, a few tears, tons of anxiety, lots of advice, and a few weeks of uncontrollable emotions... I have made a decision.... I'm leaving this wonderful state of Utah, which after 16 years of living here has become a place I love. I moved from California and always said I would never like Utah and would move back as soon as possible. Well the 4 different season, the wonderful people, the memories, friends, family, University of Utah, U of U Athletics staff, amazing scenery..... I could go on and on. These are just a few things I am going to miss. I just love this state!
However I am not going to complain about living 5 minutes from the beach or in a place where I never have to shiver in my car while waiting for it to warm up, or peer right above the dashboard and try to drive safely cause I was too lazy to scrape my windshield, or have my calling as a YSA stake rep (where I have been for 3 years and even though I have a partner I still do ALL of the work)
Anyways I am moving to (as Ron Burgundy would say) Saint D-ag-o to grow up, take a job, and become a big kid. Sometimes I am so excited, other times I wonder what in the h--- I am doing. Either way I will give it a chance, make the best of it, and thanks to my wonderful parents...if I find it unbearable, I will be welcomed back home with open arms. Giving it an honest try will mean they won't be disappointed in me if I decided its not the right place for me. I learned last summer the more nervous/excited/anxious you are about something, the more rewarding it is. Walking through the airport last year I had tears rolling down my cheeks asking myself if I would be able to make it through the next six weeks, if you've heard about my experience you know I LOVED every minute of it and DID NOT want to come home.
While writing this I am still on the fence, I don't know, I love new adventures and now could not be a better time (young, single, and right out of college, perfect!), but there is still the fear of change and hating every minute of my 40 hour work week. (who likes that anyways?)
I was just wondering why college doesn't prepare you for the real world. I don't feel like I learned how to be an adult, just a student (one with more freedom than a high school student).

So on the radio this morning they brought up the topic of debt. Many people called in and talked about how much debt they were in. One 23 year old boy was $54,000 dollars in debt. HOW DO YOU DO THAT AT 23? It wasn't even for school, it was all stupidity. I just can't believe people aren't smart enough to figure this out. This particular kid filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and never has to face the consequences of paying his debt off. Yeah I know it will go on his credit report, but why do they just get it erased? I don't really understand it, you do the crime, you should have to do the time (or in this case, you buy the crap you should have to pay for it). High schools are now requiring kids to take a class about credit card debt, and real life. I remember watching Channel 1 (back in the day) and Lisa Ling said if you bought a $500 stereo with a credit card and paid it off within a year you would actually end up paying $1000 for it. That was years ago and the interest rates were probably a lot lower, I can't imagine what it's like now. I only have one card and I got it right before my trip last summer, it really stresses me out and I don't think I will ever get myself into a ridiculous amount of debt. (unless it's for education, house, etc.) Here is the story that sparked this topic....
HOLY CRAP..... $40 Million in debt!!

Attorney Keith Barton allegedly traded on the success of the family business to rack up $40 million in debt, a lawsuit filed against him contends. Barton was the public face for Gregory, Barton & Swapp P.C., a family owned firm widely known for its "One Call, That's All" slogan. The firm dissolved earlier this year in a bitter public squabble. The lawsuit is the second filed against Barton by his sister-in-law Kim Brown, who is trying to recoup $1.2 million in unpaid fees she says Barton owes her advertising agency, Kim Brown & Associates. An earlier lawsuit claiming fraud on Barton's part was partially dismissed in August. Court documents filed Thursday in 4th District Court allege Barton used the firm's assets to fund a lavish lifestyle, which included construction of a 25,000-square-foot mansion in Alpine. Brown also claims Barton kept creditors at bay by lying about the firm's ability to pay its debts and promising payments once the firm received settlements from pending product liability cases. "By October 2003, Barton was carrying approximately $40 million in debt and the law firm had bounced 182 checks to its creditors and vendors because he was drawing out money above and beyond what the firm was able to pay," Brown's attorney Sean Egan said.
A Utah County man believes he got a bargain today when he paid seven million, that's seven million dollars, for a home in Alpine. The mansion was built and owned by attorney Keith Barton, who does extensive advertising for his personal injury firm, but it was the bank who sold it a foreclosure auction. There were just a handful of registered bidders who were qualified to bid on the property, which some appraisals had at more than twenty million dollars. But it took much less cash before the bidding was over. "If there are no further bids, the property is sold to Mr. Ledbetter who is the highest bidder at public auction, for seven million dollars." Keith Barton, who owned the home, attended the sale. Apparently, his last minute efforts to save it from the foreclosure sale failed. The home, which was on the real estate market last fall, for 14.9 million dollars was billed as a "pure work of art." It is on nine acres and has seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen, ballroom, salon, gold leaf detail, marble, original stained glass, as well as a pool, granite stone pathways, barn, loft and a greenhouse." Lennon Ledbetter, Highest Bidder: "It's an unbelievable piece of property, unbelievable quality and finish; the details are unbelievable." The new owner says he will be sympathetic to the Barton family and will allow them some time to move out. Ledbetter is originally from Utah County and is involved in Quixtar, a multi-level marketing company in the same family as Amway. The furniture in the home was not included in the seven million dollars. Ledbetter plans to negotiate with the lender, who has a lien on that part of the property, so he can buy it too.

NATIONAL STRAWBERRY DAY!!!!
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this could be one of the best days of the year (it's right up there with national peanut butter day, 4th of July, and Christmas). I was actually eating some of these delicious berries when I discovered how great this day was. Funny how life works sometimes!
